You see them all the time, but what is a road? By definition, a road is a route on land between two points. Centuries ago they were used by horses and carts and were simply made of dirt and rock. 2. Design Phase – Once the plan is approved, a defined design needs to be created. The design of the road is dependent on the needs it has to fulfil and will require a surveyor’s expertise.
3. Construction Phase – This is where the actual physical work comes in. Once the design is approved, the heavy machinery comes in and actually constructs the road: digging, compacting and tarring all form part of the final product.
4. Maintenance Phase – Unfortunately roads do not last forever, and the elements result in cracks, degrading of surface, and potholes. Roads need to be maintained so that it’s safe for motorists to reach their destination.
